Transfer two of Degas’ pastels drawings to white
paper using tracing paper or homemade carbon-paper. Break down the image into black charcoal
pencil and the white of the paper. Do
not include outlines! The image should become abstracted into the
underlining compositional structure.
Transfer two of Degas’ pastels drawings to medium
gray paper using tracing paper or homemade carbon-paper. Break down the image into black charcoal
pencil, gray of the paper and white conte. Do
not include outlines! The image should become abstracted into the
underlining compositional structure. You will have to choose which colors
should be represented by which values. This will have a large impact on the
resulting composition. Do two variations of each Degas drawing total. Change the
value placement so that the second resulting composition reads very differently.
